We all have a story to tell about how we got to this point in our lives.
For me, mine started in Holland in a small village with two windmills and an abundance of wooden shoes.
As a daughter of a tomato grower, I was raised to work hard and follow my dreams along with my three sisters. Around the age of sixteen, I went to work in my first flower shop. My duties included helping customers and sweeping the floors. I LOVED it and decided to pursue a career in this industry. Over the years my floral design education earned me the title Dutch Master Florist - yes, there is such a thing!
After working in a couple of different shops in Holland, I had the opportunity to come to the United States and work for a flower shop in Beverly Hills in 1985.
Moving to such a large city was quite a change for this small town girl, but one that I embraced.
We had celebrity clientele, created all different kinds of fun designs and arrangements, and had a blast! After meeting my husband, the two of us moved to Sacramento where we still reside.
I chose the Dutch word for flower (bloem) to honor my Dutch heritage and to better describe our commitment to utilizing European techniques. For the last 18 years I have worked on building an elegant and creative flower shop, Bloem Decor, serving clientele ranging from heads of state to major national corporations.
Do I still stop and smell the roses? Absolutely! And I buy them as often as possible to share them with others. I encourage you to visit our little piece of heaven that we've created in the heart of downtown Sacramento, and join me in celebrating the beauty and delights of flowers.
